Our signature clutch, hand made from vintage 'obi': the sash worn with kimono at formal occasions.
Recrafted from a Fukuro Obi, the sash worn over the kimono at formal occasions.
A beautiful ‘kiku’ unfurls it’s bright orange petals across this obi. Kiku, the Chrysanthemum is the Flower of the Imperial House and and often used icon of Japan itself (it features on Japanese passports). It represents rejuvenation and longevity.
This obi is heavily embroidered with shades of orange, warm red and gold: it is Nishijin style of weave, a technique developed in an area of Kyoto around 1000 years ago.
This vintage Fukuro Obi was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan. It is approximately 20 to 30 years old, and in excellent condition.
Handmade by self help groups in Cambodia.
